when you come to clinic with your cat, If your cat has dilated pupils, trembling, throwing its ears back,
raising its fur, or like the other similar sypmtoms, we can say that your cat has veterinary phobia.
So why?
To give a good answer to this, we first need to know how cats think.
number one:
1. Vet clinics smells different.
Because the veterinary clinic accepts cat and dog patients all the time. Every cat or dog has a diffrent type of smell.
For cats, different smells are a threat.
2. Cats don’t like suprises. Even the change of the place of the furniture in the house can disturb them.
When you come home with a bag or a different object, they examine it like an inspector and want to smell it and identify it.
3. Cats want to dominate their zone. They worried about it because when the cat comes clinic
they doesnt know the area, they want to hide. otherwise ıf they cant hide, they try to attack to vet 😀
thats why our cat owner says; I can’t put my cat in the box at home but if it’s in the clinic
wants to get in the box right away.
4. previous bad experiences in the clinic.
nail clipping process, painful procedures such as injections,
or similar processes that cats hate, the cat doesnt forgot this experiences.
The next time you go to the clinic with your cat, they remember and get nervous.
SO WHAT CAN WE DO TO REACH THIS SITUATION?
1. Put toys sprayed with catnip spray in the carrying case. the smell of valerian helps.
2. to choose a clinic that accepts patients with an appointment system. waiting time will increase
their stress level, so a planned vet visit would be an advantage.
3. using herbal sedatives half an hour before going home from the vet visit.
4. Don’t just show the cat’s carrier bag for vet visits.
Keep her bag where she can always see it. sometimes give treats in the bag.
5. Turning on calming cat musics can sometimes be good.
